I?ve been directing the college chamber chorus at UCW for the past fifteen years. In that time, I?ve seen many students sing their way through my classes and out into the world. In the past few years, I have noticed that there is a big increase in the number of students suffering with major allergies. As soon as fall arrives, the whole group starts coughing, sneezing, and dealing with a scratchy voice.
They are finding that they are becoming allergic to things, as they get older. More and more, our bodies are growing intolerant of the things around us. We are getting sick easier and needing to take more medication than before. There are many things that are told to help allergies and even get rid of some. Tip #1: Hypoallergenic Items
Many items sold now are hypoallergenic. You can get hypoallergenic varieties of blankets, fragrances, perfumes, cleaners, laundry detergent, and even pets. With all these things out there to purchase, we have a way to create a little more ease during those tough allergy moments. Even makeup can be hypoallergenic and ward off allergens from our faces.
Tip #2: Hardwood Floors
Many homes are now being built with hardwood floors. These are great for those who have allergy problems with dust, mildew, or mold. Many times our carpet in our homes is filled with dust. Vacuums can only go so far as to get up all the dust that is created in our homes. When there are spills on carpet, mildew and mold can grow under the carpet and create toxic air for those with allergies to it. Any kind of moisture in a home can make it a breeding ground for mildew. Carpet just holds all that in and we breathe it in every day. Hardwood floors are easy to clean and moisture usually cannot get under it or can easily be cleaned up.

Many people with allergies still smoke. Smoking not only causes allergy problems in the smoker but also in those around them. Smoke can make people have additional breathing problems and it puts dangerous pollutants in the air.
